Build A Simplifying Clothing According To Marie Kondo Philosophy
6 steps to arranging wardrobe by Marie Kondo’s KonMari method, have you tried it?
If you love the minimalist Japanese way, you HAVE probably heard of the name Marie Kondo. This businesswoman has inspired many people with the KonMari method. Building a minimalist wardrobe that suits your daily needs helps you avoid headaches when asking the question “what to wear today?”.
If you have not sorted Marie Kondo’s wardrobe yet, why don’t you give it a try this weekend? It does not take too long. It also helps to clear the mind, ready for a new week.
Step 1. Divide the clothes by category
We often have a habit of arranging rooms. For example, bedroom, living room, dining room. However, according to philosophy you should sort by category. This will give you a better overview.
When sorting clothes, you can divide them into shirts, pants, dresses, shoes, etc. Once you’ve sorted your items, you do not need to tidy them up. But just pile them together on the floor. It looks even more messy, but this is essentially a stepping stone for the next step.
Step 2. Take the “happy” test
When you pile up your clothes, you will see how many costumes you actually have. Among the dozens of these items, which one does not leave you behind? What kind of clothes makes you feel confident when wearing them? These are things you should keep, as they bring you “joy”. All the remaining items, you should not regret. The blazer is no longer fitting. The jeans were elastic. Say goodbye to them.
Step 3. Don’t be distracted by memory
Certainly, there are items associated with a certain piece of your memory. Like a scarf the mother gave away when she was 18; or earrings from grandma. They are not of your taste, but as a gift from your family, keep them in the closet forever.
Do not think too much, friend. Please take them away forcefully.
Do not be sad because the next step will help you feel better when you remove the mementos.
Step 4. Decide to throw away, or give away
There are many items that should be thrown away, if they have holes, fades, rags, or mold. However, the items you have never worn may be donated or resold. Surely, they will find a new home happier than being forgotten in your closet.
Step 5. Arrange your streamlined wardrobe
Talking about KonMari method, it is impossible not to mention how to arrange clothes. Yes, the Marie Kondo philosophy encompasses how to arrange clothes so that they are easy to find. So, you do not have to flip the whole wardrobe up to find an item. Marie Kondo advises that you prioritize putting clothes instead of hanging. Because this method is less space consuming.
We often have a habit of lining up from top to bottom in drawers. Marie Kondo advises otherwise: you should put your clothes into vertical blocks, like the back of a book, for easy removal when you need to wear.
The steps of arranging clothes follow the philosophy of Marie Kondo. The shirts are arranged as if the back of the book, very convenient to pull out, put in.
Step 6. Complete the wardrobe
Marie Kondo advises that the wardrobe should only be for skirts, or wrinkled outfits (e.g. silk, linen). When prioritizing all clothes in the closet, you have opened the space of the wardrobe.
In addition, KonMari method also recommends that you arrange according to … the length of the skirt. As such, long coats, long skirts and long dresses will be on the left. Silk blouse or short skirt is on the right hand. This invisible joint creates a diagonal line from left to right. It creates a sense of optimism for you every time you look at your wardrobe.
From left to right, the distortion feels like an arrow pulling up your spirits.
The benefits of wardrobe arrangement by the Marie Kondo method
- Giving you an overview of your wardrobe. You no longer have to spend too much time to dress up every day, to find costumes that work together, when you can clearly see the costumes you own.
- Help you shop more effectively: After cleaning the closet, you will recognize the “loopholes” in the closet. For example, you only have one fitting blazer. Or no skirt to work, just go to convenient party. So, when you go shopping, you won’t get rambling. And you can focus on finding the products you need.
